On August 22, 2025, the Symposium on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Industry Development in the 15th Five-Year Plan Period was successfully held in Beijing. The event was organized by the Biomass Energy Industry Branch of China Industrial Development Promotion Association (hereinafter referred to as "the Branch"). Representatives from institutions and companies involved in SAF, including SINOPEC Research Institute of Petroleum Processing (RIPP), China Electric Power Engineering, Haike Group, Wuchan Zhongda, Hong Kong and China Gas Co., Ltd., Jiaao Environmental Protection, Junheng Biology, Haitian Energyman, Hubei Synthetic Biology, Pengyao Biology, and Sichuan Tianzhou, were invited to attend.
Shi Lishan, Vice President of China Industrial Development Promotion Association, delivered the opening speech, while Zhang Dayong, Deputy Secretary-General and Secretary-General of the Biomass Energy Industry Branch, chaired the meeting.
Shi Lishan emphasized that against the backdrop of global aviation industry accelerating decarbonization, the SAF industry enjoys broad market prospects. With abundant waste oil feedstock resources, China holds significant potential for future SAF production and supply. He urged the domestic SAF sector to accurately grasp international trends, expedite standard formulation and system development, and prepare for upcoming industry opportunities. He also stressed the importance of strengthening industry self-discipline to avoid cutthroat competition.
During the meeting, representatives from the Branch presented updates on the current status and future outlook of the sustainable aviation fuel industry, as well as the progress of the SAF monitoring subsystem under the Zero-Carbon Energy Certificate Voluntary Certification Platform and the monitoring of SAF production enterprises.
Attendees acknowledged that monitoring feedstock sources, production processes, and product distribution is crucial for the standardized development of the SAF industry, and affirmed the significance of establishing the SAF monitoring subsystem.
Participants also engaged in in-depth discussions on challenges currently facing the industry, such as unclear market demand, incomplete standard systems, and issues related to feedstock and product exports, and put forward constructive suggestions.
This symposium provided a valuable platform for exchange within the SAF industry. Moving forward, the Branch will accelerate the formulation of industry-related standards and promote monitoring efforts to contribute to the green transformation of the aviation sector in alignment with China's dual-carbon goals.
