PVC Flooring Quality Risk Monitoring: Excess Dibutyl Phthalate in Some Products

Leave a message

On October 30, the Liaoning Provincial Market Supervision Administration website published a report on the quality risk monitoring of PVC flooring products (2024 No. 10), which has garnered significant attention.

This risk monitoring focused on PVC flooring, collecting 15 samples. Testing followed the GB/T 22048-2022 standard, specifically monitoring for dibutyl phthalate (DBP) in PVC flooring. The results showed that 6 out of the 15 batches tested positive for DBP, with two batches exceeding 0.1%. This level surpasses the EU REACH regulation (1907/2006/EC, Directive (EU) 2018/2005, Annex XVII) which limits the combined concentration of DEHP, DBP, BBP, and DIBP.

DBP, a stable, colorless, oily liquid, is widely used as a plasticizer in products like nitrocellulose, polyvinyl acetate (PVA), and PVC. It also serves as an additive in lubricants, defoamers, skin conditioners, and polishes. As a primary plasticizer in plastic production, DBP softens the material but does not bind with polymer chains, gradually releasing over time and posing potential risks to the environment and living organisms.

Studies indicate that DBP affects the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, disrupting normal hormone levels and leading to reproductive issues. In males, it can impair sperm production, cause chromosomal damage, and result in testicular atrophy. DBP is also found in soils and plants due to its high octanol-water partition coefficient, posing ecological risks. Consequently, the EU has classified DBP as a strictly controlled environmental pollutant.

Phthalate Hazards:

Male Reproductive Toxicity: Severe testicular atrophy, altered testosterone levels, and decreased sperm count.

Female Reproductive Toxicity: Effects on the uterus and ovaries, delayed or absent ovulation, and hormonal imbalance.

Blood System Effects: Reduced hematocrit, decreased hemoglobin, and increased platelet adhesion.

Teratogenicity: Increased risk of fetal mortality and organ toxicity, including effects on the heart, kidneys, and lungs.

Liver Toxicity: Oxidative damage to proteins, lipid membranes, and DNA, potentially harming stem cells.

Carcinogenicity: Prolonged exposure raises the risk of malignant stem cell tumors.

Our products (JDCH888 and JDCH999 series) use non-phthalate, eco-friendly plasticizers and are free from DEHP, BBP, DBP, and DIBP. All products have passed relevant SGS and RoHS certifications. For product testing details, please scan the QR code below.
