Hainan Province Market Supervision Administration Conducts Supervision and Random Inspections on Children's Shoes Products
Recently, the Hainan Province Market Supervision Administration conducted supervision and random inspections on children's shoes products in the circulation field across the province. A total of 35 batches were inspected, and 5 batches were found to be non-compliant, with a non-compliance rate of 14.3%.
The inspections were based on the requirements of standards such as GB 25038-2010, GB 30585-2014, GB/T 25036-2021, QB/T 4331-2021, QB/T 4546-2021, and others. The following items were tested: folding resistance, abrasion resistance, upper and sole separation strength, upper strap pull-out strength, outsole hardness, adhesive strength between outsole and midsole, physical safety performance (excluding steel shank), longitudinal rigidity of the shank, shank hardness, shank length lower limit, shank bending performance, total heavy metals, dimethyl fumarate, N-nitrosamine in rubber components, hexavalent chromium in leather and fur, phthalates, formaldehyde content, carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, upper and sole separation strength, abrasion, hardness, and phenol content.
The inspection found that 5 batches failed to meet the standard requirements related to safety indicators, with non-compliant items being: total heavy metals, phthalates, shank length lower limit, shank bending performance, shank hardness, and longitudinal rigidity of the shank. No issues with performance-related items were found in this inspection.
Children's shoes containing excessive harmful chemicals, such as heavy metals and phthalates, may pose risks to children's health and development due to potential ingestion during use. Non-compliant shanks fail to provide sufficient support, leading to issues like slanting, deformation, or even breakage, which can cause discomfort and pose safety risks like falls or sprained ankles.
The non-compliant products found in this inspection will be transferred to the market supervision departments in the respective production areas for legal processing.

Hazards of Phthalates
▶ Toxicity to the male reproductive system: Primarily manifested as testicular toxicity, which may include severe testicular atrophy, significant changes in testosterone levels, decreased spermatogenic cells, rapid decline in testicular enzyme activity, and reduced sperm count.
▶ Toxicity to the female reproductive system: Phthalates can have toxic effects on the uterus and ovaries, possibly leading to extended estrous cycles, lowered progesterone levels, uterine enlargement, altered ovulation cycles, delayed ovulation, or anovulatory cycles.
▶ Effects on the blood system: A significant reduction in hematocrit, a noticeable decrease in hemoglobin content, and increased platelet adhesion.
▶ Teratogenicity: Studies show that exposure to low doses of phthalates significantly increases the probability of stillbirths, with acute exposure leading to cardiac toxicity, renal toxicity, pulmonary toxicity, and death.
▶ Hepatotoxicity: Phthalates cause oxidative damage to proteins, liver cell membrane lipids, and DNA, potentially damaging stem cells.
▶ Carcinogenicity: Long-term exposure to phthalates significantly increases the risk of malignant stem cell tumors.
