Whether Plasticizers Affect Health Depends On The Intake

The ministry of health has put phthalates on a "blacklist" of non-edible substances that may be used in food, and has drawn up corresponding testing methods, according to a report on excessive plasticizers in food produced by some Taiwan enterprises.Imports of products from companies in Taiwan that have been found to be contaminated with plasticizers have been suspended.Plasticizer in mainland China is known as plasticizer, can be added to the plastic polymer to increase the plasticity of plastic, up to hundreds of species.

The ministry of health has put phthalates on a "blacklist" of non-edible substances that may be used in food, a ministry official said.Imports of products from companies in Taiwan that have been found to be contaminated with plasticizers have been suspended.

Plasticizer in mainland China is known as plasticizer, can be added to the plastic polymer to increase the plasticity of plastic, up to hundreds of species. The illegal enterprises in Taiwan added phthalate esters, a common plasticizer, including diphenyl phthalate (2-ethyl) hexyl ester (DEHP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and so on.

Plasticizers are widely used in food packaging, medical and health supplies, paint and other industrial products. There are also extremely small amounts of phthalate esters such as DEHP in the environment and drinking water. Under normal circumstances, People's Daily exposure level is very low, and there is no obvious impact on human health. However, some phthalate esters have endocrine disrupting effects, and long-term large intake will affect reproduction and development. There is no evidence that phthalates are carcinogenic to humans. The health effects of phthalates such as DEHP depend on their intake. In adults weighing 60 kilograms, the world health organization, the U.S. food and drug administration and the European Union consider 1.5, 2.4 and 3.0 milligrams of DEHP or less per person per day for life to be safe, respectively.

DINP is less toxic and is safe even at 9.0 mg per day.Food also can have microplasticizer to migrate from packaging material to food in store process, but qualified plastic packaging material migratory amount should not exceed concerned level.China's "food containers, packaging materials used additives use health standards" (GB9685) strictly stipulated that the migration of DEHP from food packaging materials to food is 1.5 mg/kg,DINP is 9 mg/kg, consistent with the world's developed countries.
